pop up xj6 hood

PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY HOOD
I have tried everything but weilding my drivers side hood shut.
I have sean too many jag picts that show the drivers side popped up, way to often to think that this is coincedince.
If you know how to keep an XJ6 hood shut then let me know

I had a '73 SerI XJ-6 that the passenger side of the bonnet refused to latch or woul "pop-up" while driving.. being a very used Jag when I bought it, I learned that it was commom for "uninformed" previous owners to reach up, grab the rear (upper)corner of the drivers side of the bonnet and slam the bonnet down.
This method caused the bonnet to "tweak" slightly on closing which, I believe, resulted in the passenger side latching peg to be mis-aligned with it's receiver.. ultimately the latching peg hitting the edge of it's receiver would fatigue the sheet-metal bracket and crack.. I had to re-weld both of my "latching peg" brackets due to cracks.
Once the latches are correctly repaired and adjusted, the "proper" way to close the bonnet is to gently lower it from the front center of the XJ, place your hands on the bonnet and press it down until it latches..
I never had a problem of "pop-up" in the six years I drove the XJ after repairing the latch peg brackets..
If you do have cracks in your brackets, welding will burn the paint on the bonnet.. I found out the hard way on the first bracket repair..
On the second repair, I placed water soaked cloths on the exterior of the bonnet opposite the area to be welded.. once welded, I quinched the welded bracket with wet cloths and replaced the cloth on the outside of the bonnet with a "fresh" cold water soaked cloth.. The Primrose Yellow paint was unblemished.
While this method worked for me, I cannot guarantee it will work for others.
