Re: P1800 "wagon"

Got a red one that frequents the Ithaca area. Still belongs to the original owner. It's rough, but it's also still a daily driver. The only p-1800 wagon I've ever seen. I like it.

Re: P1800 "wagon"

I wanted one years ago. I was doing a lot of bike riding and it would have been great as a dd. Price/Age stopped me. The wagon was the P1800ES model.

Re: P1800 "wagon"

My neighbour down the street has a white one (non ES), but I have not seen him drive it since last year. It's sort of run-down.The guy I bought my house from had one too, so there were two of them before I moved in.
I owned a factory-converted 289 V8 P1800 that was part of a test-run by Volvo to develop a Cobra fighter. But I was a poor college kid when I owned it and couldn't afford to keep it.

I saw this one at Britfest here in NJ yesterday (in the parking lot---not in the show).
It's a Jensen-bodied (early) car, so technically, it's partly "British.

More photos of stuff I saw at Britfest HERE

Re: P1800 "wagon"

It was so old, beat and tired when I owned it that it probably wasn't a good example. But the steering was very heavy and the thing pushed a lot of heat into the cockpit. And the engine was tired and burned oil.

I sold it and bought an 850 Mini.

According to something else I found (but cannot locate now), about 15 of these cars were built. Mine had a 4 barrel carb, custom headers, dual-points distributor and a 4 speed manual trans. I recall the installation was very professional-looking. It has a plaque on the firewall about being built in Englewood Cliffs, NJ (home of Volvo-USA back then).

You can find a little about it about half way down on ~This Link~

Re: P1800 "wagon"

Cool.

Yeah, mine had a T10 and pedals that were offset to the left (and I imagine the tunnel was moved over, but I never really spent that much time looking at it).

Mine has a stock Volvo rear end, which was OK, but the rear universal joint wasn't up to the task (the driveshaft was Ford at the front and Volvo at the rear). I replaced several u-joints.

Rear plugs were impossible.
It was unique of course, but soon after I got it, I realized a normal Mustang V8 would have been a better car.

I bought it out of a newspaper ad in the Trenton Times (NJ). No clue who I got it from. Sold it to a young kid who mostly wanted the T10, so I imagine it was scrapped.
