T-Series New User: MGTC midget 1948 gearbox question

Hello,

I'm from The netherlands and new to this forum. I have a question regarding the gearbox noise heard from a Midget MGTC from 1948.

When shifting into the gear to ride backwards (don't know the appropriate description since I don't know technical English) the engine is making a humming/zooming noise and with a little friction on the gearstick it goes away. It does not sound right though and it it's more clutch related if you ask me.

Someone knows what it is?

Thanks very much.

The word you were looking for is REVERSE.

Roy - You will be able talk to more people with knowledge of the TC on the T-ABC web site at: https://www.mg-tabc.org/ I would also suggest that you go to the Y-Type Register web site at: https://www.mgytypes.org The Y Types use the same drive train as the TC and there are a number of your countrymen on that site, which will make communications much easier for you. I can tell you that reverse gear in the T series MGs are very noisy, as is first gear because of the way the gears are cut.
Cheers,

Thanks for the tips, I'll try the other forums. Anyway, you think it's the drive train?

Cheers,
Roy

The TC gearbox is not quiet, especially in reverse. Unless there is clunking, grinding or something you can feel then I wouldn't worry about it.
