hi all. my name is stu mitchell and i live in BC (canada) i teach automotive and own a 70TR6. i love the thing but man oh man sometimes...right now my batt keeps discharging...i have about 14.2v at the batt, running. where is the usual drain to be found with the voltage?
-thanks.

I've found that the most common area for shorts on a Triumph is the metal parts that are suspended from the road by the tires /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But seriously... disconnect the battery cables and hook up a voltmeter set for testing continuity to the cables. Turn OFF everything and if you have a complete circuit (continuity) then you have a short. Now comes the fun part: Isolating the short....

I would disconnect wires at the fuse block one at a time and see which circuit has the short. Then it should be not SO difficult to track down what circuit it is on the wiring diagram and track down the short.

Good Luck!

Hi Stu,
Your post prompted me to finally register. I just went thru the same thing with a battery drain, ended up buying a new batt but may not have needed it. My drain appears to have come from the glove box lite. the switch worked correctly but the gl bx lid wasn't closing tight enough so I pushed the latch catch in with my thumb which causes it to close much tighter.
This may not be your drain source but if you see light seeping out your glove box when it's lid is closed then beware! Mine did this intermittently and I'm pretty sure that was the culprit in my case...if so then it's a simple fix.
