Offered here first.

OK - been sitting on this a few days until I could go see it. A friend has a '58 MGA that's been in the family for a while, but needs to let it go in order to buy a house. Painted in '99, but it's been sitting since '05; taken out periodically for short drives until the rear wheel locked up. It's dusty, but looks like a very nice project for either a driver or full restoration. Body seems VERY straight, and there's a bit of surface rust on the frame. Has not been started in a while. As a couple of the tires are flat, I couldn't get a good look at the frame. Interior needs help, etc., etc. But the good news is that it's all there, and there are lots of receipts as well as some pictures of the paint work, including a shot of the car after stripping. Currently yellow with black interior, but according to the commission number, I'm pretty sure it was originally a red car. I'm working on getting more info, but what I can tell you is that it is original except for a B engine transplant; I think it's an early 3-main high compression. If I had room and finances I'd be all over it! But I've too many years invested in a marriage at this point to risk it!

I'm at meetings most of today, but will be online later this afternoon or evening. PM me if you're REALLY interested and I can get you a few pictures. We'd like to see this go to someone who will give it the care it deserves, rather than just grab it and flip it. The car is a couple hours away from me, but I'd be more than happy to help with arrangements.

OK - maybe a picture?

That color is liveable...could it be driven with a modest amount of elbow grease? Not looking myself, just wondering aloud.

As I said, Peter, if I could, this thing would already be in my possession, and wouldn't even be on the Forum! No doubt in my mind that with some elbow grease and a few bucks, this thing would be roadworthy. For sure, it will need hydraulics redone and new tires. Again, I have no interest, other than helping out a friend and ensuring that it goes to the right home, since it won't be coming here.

Well, I knew this would happen. Late last year I was looking for a project, and I couldn't find a suitable car that I really wanted, namely an MGA or a TR4. I ended up with an MGTD, which is fine, since my main goal was to have something to work on, not so much for the finished product. But of course in the last couple months a couple of suitable TR4s have shown up, and now an MGA.

Why is my timing always off?!!

Does seem to go that way, now doesn't it. You've got a nice project going, though.

MGAs really are pretty cars, but I just don't fit well in them. I'm sure there's a good home out there for the car.

Do hope so; this one deserves it!

I am a big guy and I fit in them! How tall/large are you? I've found that it is futile to even consider trying to fit in and drive an MGA using the stock steering wheel and I use a much smaller leather covered wheel that totally solves the fitting isue (wish it also solved the creaky knees issue climbing into a coupe....)

The problem is my size 12EEEE shoes -- just not enough pedal space for my feet, at least in the MGA I've sat in. Very few LBCs work for me because of that (and I'm 6'1" 210#).

Ah, that I can see - there is limited foot room

Well I pulled the trigger! Its home now and I will have a good look at it Monday morning. I do not think it has ever had any rust thru. I hope to take it to the NAMGAR meet in Asheville NC in June. This car will keep me away from the TR3a project for a few weeks! Bob

So I got a chance to do a 5 mile run last evening. Looks like the engine is toast. Very low oil pressure when hot. Next step....Spend more money! Bob
