Hi Alex - more experienced minds than mine will give some advice, but I'd suggest you contact the NAMGAR (namgar.com) chairman. There are always varying opinions on original paint and finish.
On the MGA all the exterior bolted on panels were painted assembled to the shell so all the attaching fender bolts and washers including the front apron were all painted body color. The fenders were probably not tightened so that color would overspray into the seam , later to be filled with the grey piping.
