MG TC racer

I was just offered an MG TC with a french built aluminum 60hp Ford flathead V8. Appearently the car was built in this country and raced in the 60's. I have been trying to find some information about it but can't seem to find anything. Just wondering if anyone here remembers seeing it or hearing anything about it.

Those engines were used in the Simca Vedette. I don't believe the block was aluminum, but it might have aftermarket aluminum heads. A few of the Simca engines had aluminum oil pans.

You might try contacting the VSCCA:

https://www.vscca.org/

...or your local region of the SCCA.

Sounds like a neat "special".

It has Offy heads and intake with twin Stromburg 97's on it. I havn't looked at the car yet, going to this weekend but I did see pictures of it. From what he told me it was raced in Detroit in the 60's. Be nice to be able to document a race history of it though. From what he told me, he talked to some flathead guys in Iowa and they told him there was an aluminum block version made in France but I can't find any reference to it online. Does have the Ford logo on the block though. I'll keep posted as I find more and post some pics of it when I go look at it.

I never thought about that. would it need to run an american diff to handle the power or a rotation issue? What would likely have been used if it was built in the 50's or 60's?

well I just went and looked at the car. Has an SCCA plaque on the firewall that gives the registration number. I've got an email in to the SCCA archives to try to get some information on it. It has the 60hp flathead and transmission, MG rear end. The aluminum engine turns out to be an aluminum oilpan but it is still a genuine ford part. Offenhouser finned aluminum heads and unknown intake with twin stromburg 93's. Body appears to be in very good condition with only surface rust on parts of it. Most chrome is present and in good shape. It had been upgraded with what I think are TD wire wheels most likely when it was being raced. Appearently the car has been sitting since last raced in the 60's. I'll keep posted as I find more. I pretty sure I'm going to get the car.

If it raced in SCCA events, there should be a number stamped in the roll bar that is also noted on the log book.

No roll bar or log books, but it does have the SCCA registration number on the plaque on the firewall. I'm getting in contact with the previous owner in the next couple weeks so I can see pictures of it racing and probably get some more information about it. On the windshield there is a #8 with a T inside a circle painted on the windshield so that might help a little too.
