Which would be the act of maintaining the current state of things in an attempt to prevent something worse (and potentially much more expensive) from happening. For example, you should change the oil in you daily driven car every 3000 miles (or 3 months) to keep the engine in good health. If you never change your oil, well, let's just say that a new engine costs a bit more than 4 quarts of oil and a new filter.
