I guess I could say, it could have been worse

Trust me, you can wait longer than you think you can.

This is a royal PITA......and nothing has been torn apart yet!!!!

I really wanted to spend the fall driving the car, not waiting for it to be done in another shop, only to have the snow arrive.

Wow, that is really too bad! I just got back from vacation today and saw this, that really stinks! Hopefully once they start pulling it apart the damage won't be as bad as it looks and it won't take to long to fix. Was that the original paint on the car? At least you got the chance to get some summer driving in to break in that beautiful engine you have under the hood.

Paul, I can't beleive it! When I first saw the pictures I thought this must be something from the archives. Hopefully, that's what this will be real soon.

Best of luck!!

Certainly sorry to be learning from your misfortune but I am now doubly glad that I signed up with Hagerty last week for my TR6 and my 540i-BOTH cars for less $ at higher declared values than I was paying for just the BMW at Amica.
Also going to get out and get inch by inch pictures from every conceivable angle as you suggested.
Still hope we can hook up on the road before too long
Elysium

Very sorry to see this, Paul, but I'm glad you and the missus are okay. Good to hear that Hagerty is providing good service for you. A small consolation considering the situation.

Ugh, Paul. So sorry to see those photos :frown:

I admire how philosophical you appear to be about it.

Best wishes for a rapid return of the car to its former glory.

Thanks for the support, guys.

As far as philosophical goes Julian, my Mom always said "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

However. now that I think of it, she never said what to do when someone smashes your into banana!!! I guess that I'll have to figure that one out by myself.

Julian, Is it my imagination ,have you been persona non grata lately?

I've been looking in, but not doing much with the TR6, as it's too darned hot these days.

Tonight I tried on a nice boot cover I got off Ebay, and it looked so nice it inspired me to put digit to keyboard again

Hello, Paul, dismayed to see your recent pix. FWIW, a Jag owner in our club had a T-bone in his beautiful XKE. As I understand it, dealing w/ Hagerty was the best part of the experience..... Best of luck!

I like Ron White's philosophy, "When life throws you lemons, get some vodka and have a party!"

I hope you have no frame damage. If it is any consolation, there was very limited damage to the frame when my old TR6 rolled nose first into a tree. The nose was pushed within an inch of the rad. A lot of other things got destroyed though.

Ouch! Very sorry to see this, but good to hear Hagerty is being good to deal with so far. :frown:

...rats...

I wish I hadn't opened this thread.

Sooo sorry, Paul.

Paul,
Sorry about your mishap. Glad you're both OK. It really stinks when you are just the person in the wrong place at the wrong time. I would call Sports & Classics in Darien, CT and see if they still have the OEM hood, fender and front bumper in stock. I've seen them advertised from there. Not cheap but you have the right to make that car whole and as I would bet, there was no Bondo on that hood or fender prior to the accident and you should not have to live with any after it's repaired either. If anyone tries to save that hood, it will absolutely require some filler. These body guys are magicians but only to a certain extent.

This could be a real boon for Hagerty. I had been reluctant to switch because of the extremely low premiums, I was not sure if they actually came through when you need them. I'll be closely watching this thread.

.

On the whole, I've heard nothing but good things about both Hagerty and J.C. Taylor as insurance providers for classic cars.

Bummer dude.

Paul.....I saw your post on 6-pack and asked why you were "bummed out"....now I know. Man that sucks. Glad that you two are OK. Cars are easier to repair then us old guys. Let us know how you make out with Haggerty. And I know you'll get a perfect paint match!

Thanks again everyone.

Hagerty update, Day Two.

As promised, I was contacted today by Hagerty confirming that they had an independent appraiser coming to see the car at my convenience. They asked if I had a shop and I said yes, so more info trades hands.

By noon, I had two voice messages from appraisers office asking for a call to set up a time and place for inspection. I returned the call, explained that it was a classic British restoration and asked if I could have an appraiser familiar with such cars. The young lady said that they had five in her office that specialized in this type of work and worked well with body shops to come up with agreed plans of repair. The one that she recommended would not be in until tomorrow and she asked if I could wait until then to get a call to confirm my selected time and place. I said yes and I expect that I'll have a call by noon tomorrow.

So far, so good with Hagerty and Appraisers.
