I guess I could say, it could have been worse

I don't want to offend anyone, but, the best auto insurance for your "regular" vehicle comes from one company, their service and prices, beat everyone by not just a little, but alot, that company is Erie Insurance. This only applies to your "regular" car, not classic vehicles.

Ya know, I have to say that we've got Erie for my homeowners and a few months ago, when my house was burglarized, they were awesome to deal with.

Wow, my mother, sister and cousin work at Erie Insurance. It is no longer family owned, I hope they stay on top.

June 9th, 2001.... We in the Houston area got HAMMERED by Tropical storm Allison... over 22 inches of rain in 24 hours... Interstate 10 under 8 feet of water... Vehicles totalled in the Houston/Harris County area was in excess of 60,000 due to flooding and many more that were repaired. I worked at one of Houston's largest Ford dealers at that time. We took in over 400 cars and trucks just on site, and we rented storage for more. My most vivid memory was the scene out on the west parking lot that normally had new inventory parked there. Each insurance company had a tent and section of the lot to evaluate the cars and trucks in their coverage. The major players in the insurance industry dispatched all those cars in a timely, efficient manner with new/reman parts from FoMoCo.... the not so major ones employed dilatory, low life tactics to fix their insureds' cars. Used junk yard transmissions in some cases, only flushing automatic transmissions in other cases (waste of time).... NOT totalling some vehicles that clearly needed to be, and then using salvage transmissions, engines, and other parts instead of reman or new units. Many of the salvage parts failed before the vehicle ever left the service dept. Some came back soon after, and supplemental claims had to be filed, only to get denied... I saw a lot of anguished people being mis-treated all because they went with dis-count insurance wannabe's. One local insurer was shut down by the state of Texas for their indiscretions. It left an indellible impression on me. Never go with the also-ran insurance players... the cheaper premiuim means they aren't properly funded for a disaster.

I would never assume just because I paid the most for something, I got the most, in other words, just because I paid a high premium, I had the best insurance. Being with Erie for about 20 yrs., I can say they have always been unbelievable. In fact, in 1987, my P/U truck caught on fire, and after talking to them, I didn't believe what they told me, and called back to verify that I was in fact going to get what they said I would, it was that good. And, they have always been hundreds cheaper than other companies. In fact, I don't know how many times, other companies have declined to give a quote when they found out you had Erie, as they knew they could not compete. However, don't even bother calling them about classic cars and motorcycles, as its not what they want to insure. Also, I believe Hagerty's is the best, and they are also inexpensive. That being said, not everyone will meet the qualifications for the better insurance companies best deals. The best prices go to those with the best driving history, and claim records. And, thats how our health insurance should be also, but, that's another story.
