I don't care what the books say. I took the front end off my engine this morning and there is no provision on the timeing chain sproket for chain tensioners. According to the book there should be a lip to mount the rubber rings on each side of the sproket, no lip folks. Wasted effort but now we know.

Must have been a change from the orginial engine/sproket although the parts manual plainly states 948 and 1098.

Guess there are lots of Bugeyes running around without the tensioner. Knew I had never used that part in the past, I just knew it. Now I know why.

Oh yea anti seze on the front bolt worked as advertised think I will put a bit on the pully as well and now is the time to move the timeing mark up to the top where I can see it. Thanks Hap for the tip.

Jack, you've just made a million: Write your own book on not how the 'books' say it's done, but how the guy in his garage can get it done.
I'll take 5% of your publishing advance. Just 5, I'm not greedy or anything.

Jack, by the time that engine goes in your car, it will have been rebuilt a half dozen times!

But Tony it's all I have to do. Back together now.

Go buy that '74 in Tallahassee...

Heh, what 74 in Tallahassee, but then I only have a three car garage and association says they have to be in the garage.

Get a 4-post lift...or better yet, buy one of the houses in my neighborhood that's for sale...

I'll forward some photos to you if you're interested...

Hehe, then I would have lots of money for little cars.
