why they say don't buy replacement fenders!

Fixing up a TR3A and one fender is trashed. IE: a quart of bondo over rust and beat up in the front so bad that I did buy a replacement fender. It has been around a while , but does have MOSS numbers on it. The guy I bought it from said it had been stored for 15 years or so.
1. The holes for the attachement bolts missed ALL the holes
2. The front curve was not matching the car
3. The gap to the door was too wide in one area and too tight in another.

Solution:
The attachement strip that takes the bolts was taken off. IE: drill out all the spot welds. Then this was remounted onto the car without the fender.
The rear mount of the fender IE: front door jab was bent backward so the door gap was better.
The fender was then mounted on the car and the spot welds re-done with a MIG welder.
I had to correct the front bottom of the fender as it was too short. This was one are of the original fender that was still solid so I cut off the required material and welded this onto the fender. The bottom section of the attachment in this bottom front was not touching the fender so I added a piece to support attachement.
Mark and drill the holes for two cage nuts that were missing.
Grind off the excese welds

And this only took all day. Fender is now usable! I would have spent a week on the old fender but between the two, a usable fender.

Jerry - It takes special anlytical skills as to how to best approach any problem and you seem to be one of these people who love to solve problems.

Keep up the good work.

Sounds like quite a bit of work! I am having to do quite a bit on my two front fenders. Having been on a vintage race car, the each have a different set of issues. I am working on the passenger side at the moment....

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd
