HOW do I get this thing apart?

It does, Kenny - why?

I think I'll pop a cork, have a glass of wine, a smoke and go out and watch the Rid Rust work.

He say's (and you have this on your site) that the spacer is useless and can be tossed.

That's true; however, if there's wear you'll need one or more to make things turn smoothly...I tossed all of them on the GRM car & tightened the castle nut down until the hub bearly turns.

Ahhh, I was just curious, I'll be doing this on my car soon. At least my dust covers are alot easier to get at. Do you have any wheel bearings in stock for my car tony? I need to do both sides.

What exactly is the spacer?

Hollow "tube" basically. With a taper at the outboard end. Rough finish, kinda looks like a half finished milk bottle! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is that the bit I can't get out of the center of the hub? It turns freely but won't come out either end.

Yep, it won't come out until you remove the inner bearing

Kenny - I think I do, I'll check...if not, I'll order some...should have them Friday when you come up...

Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

PHEW! After following this thread, I am SO glad I'm working on a 'rumph! My wire wheel splines just unbolted from the hubs, and I replaced the studs with standard length ones to mount my Bullit wheel adapters. Jaybird, I am in awe of your tenacity in getting that hub apart! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Ray - don't gloat too much - most of us pop those suckers off in a jif! Janel is a fast learner & I'll be the next one goes much easier!

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was gloating. Honestly thought those things would be a royal PIA from the look of them.

HEck, if I owned a car that made this job easy, I'd gloat...hehehe...actually, if you do it with the stub axle still mounted to the car's suspension, its pretty easy: remove dust cap, remove cotter pin, remove castle nut, slide rotor/hub assembly off suspension...remove 4 bolts take rotor off hub

(that's also how you get to the wheel bearings - I repack mine each driving season)

About 1/2 hour per side at most....Janel is totally redoing her suspension so she has it in bits.

Second one took me 10 minutes max once I pried out the dust cover.

Back to work today after being sick a week. Woke up with an excruciating headache, nothing's phased it yet. (maybe I'm allergic to working?)

I'll check in later this evening, probably not before.

Prised....Pried only works on Amerikan Kars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[more specifically...You would "lever it" as prising is what you do w/ a spanner (wrench)]
