HOW do I get this thing apart?

How many shims did you find?

Fingers worked. But I didn't see any shims.

where's the bearings?

Didn't see any of those yet either...

Look inside the hub...the bearings are probably there along with the shims & the spacer.

lol, no shims or bearings. Now we know what the problem is.

This is what was inside the hub, except for a lot of gook I didn't bother taking pictures of because most of it's under my fingernails.

I think I see a shim there!

SHIMS!!!

A shim. Or is that a washer?

Same difference.

& where's the big funny shaped spacer? Still inside the hub?

There may be more than one in the pile of grease. Hard to tell, but I'd bet on it.

Janel - do you have a parts washer with a little basket in it? If so, put everything in it overnight

That's where everything is headed, soon as I get the other assembly disassembled. This dust cover is far tighter than the first.

Going back out to give it another go.

Doc, your box is full, empty it.

Parts washer, now there's an idea. I start with laundry tub and clorx clean up with a tooth brush.

Don't put them in the same basket - keep them separate...each side uses a different number of/size spacer

? Not sure what it looks like so I don't know what to look for.

Does JDW's wheel bearing thing not apply on splined hubs tony?

~smiles sweetly at Tony~

I won't. I'm doing them completely separate to be safe. I'll soak the disassembled one overnight, and soak the other all day tomorrow.

Here's ALL that's left inside the hub. The one thing, whatever it is, rotates, but doesn't come out, from either end.
