Happy Friday. From an old Road and Track

Hello all,

I'm sure the moderator doesn't want the forum filled up with this kind of crap but...an older friend of mine gave me a box full of old Road and Track magazines from the late 50's all the way to the late 80's.

Anyway, I found this Road and Track marketplace from 1973 particularly interesting because there is not only one but TWO 100S's for sale in here.

Later,
Wally

No worries Wally, I can always use a good cry on Friday morning!

I was driving a Healey back in 1973 and was reading Road & Track, but I wasn't shopping for a 100S at the time. Couldn't have afforded $6,000 anyway!

Same here, used to have a collection from about 1964 to 1998 when a move from Atlanta to Savannah doomed all those old boxes of R & T ! Oh well, like Reid didn't have the money then in 1973 but did have a Pinto Country Squire station wagon and Reid was driving a Healey, what's wrong with that picture ?

Mike

Not to mention that $6k in 1973 probably would have bought you a 427 Cobra. Besides, gasoline was almost over $1 a gallon and none of us could have afforded to fill up these beasts at that price. Still remember when the club mags were filled with tips how to increase gas mileage because gas prices were so high.

Let me know if that works Rick and if it does, keep it to yourself and me and we'll get all those cars we could never afford back then or even now ! Got a big storage facility we can use !!!

Mike

What $6K for a car without a drivetrain? He must have been crazy to ask so much. Why don't you respond to the ad and see if he still has it!

In that price range I'm torn between the Argentine Cord roadster and the 250 Ferrari as well. --elrey

Maybe this will get me booted then...I was only 5 years old in '73

The car I have now ('56 BN2) was my Dad's car, he bought it in the later '70s for $2500. I do agree that $6000 was a lot of money then, but at the time who knew how crazy things would go later. Yeah, I wish he would have sprung for an "M" or remote chance an "S" but I am very happy to have the car that I do.

I know I'll go straight to H__l for this, but the Alfa GTVs got my attention, as well. Almost bought a GTV in 1968 before I bought my '67 BJ8. I'll have to look through all my 'junk' to see if I still have any of my old R&T or C&D magazines. Anyway, thanks for the post.

No h##l for lusting after an Alfa. I have a GTV on my short list of cars to own someday. Every time I think I might be ready I discover the price of admission has gone up again.

Know what you mean about lusting after the GTV. Had one after I got rid of the Pinto wagon. Loved it but they rusted worse than a Healey. Could pop the hood and just stare at that beautiful double overhead cam engine. Of course only guy in town that could get the webbers tuned worked at the local Ferrari dealership and raced Datsun 510's. Sold it to a buddy who took it to Hawaii, probably turned to a huge pile of rust shortly thereafter !
