Half way?

Well, there comes a time when you just have to leave the comfort of the garage and venture out into the world. After countless times of pushing the TR3 in and out, today was meant for it to be under it's own power. We made it out of the garage, down the driveway, down the street around the cul-de-sac at either end, and back into the garage. Nothing leaked, no obvious drips, no breakdowns, no accidents, no tickets. But definitely not no fun. Put a whole mile on the clock and it's ready for more.

The tires were manufactured in march of 1993, but they made it. They sure spin easily and made that tire squealing noise that makes a LBC seem so much more powerful. The brakes work, steers easily and shifts from 1st to second as if it were a Toyota. The generator is generating, the regulator regulating and the rest of the parts are waiting to be put on.

The light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. I'm not sure if it is heading towards me, or I am headed towards it, but I know where this car has been, and what I have done to bring it where it will be. I feel good. I'm pretty sure I'm more than half way now, so this thread will be ending as soon as I have it completly back together.

Hey congratulations! That looks oh so reminiscent of my TR4A's maiden voyage except I was sitting on a crate.

Outstanding! And I love the cut down style of those doors!:chuncky:

Jerry, congrats on your maiden voyage and your HUGE progress. I continue to enjoy your posts - there is so much to learn about these cars! We will all need a video of your 2nd voyage down the street so dust off your Iphone and throw us some revs as you drive by. Again, congrats. Nice work!

It is AWESOME! Nice work Jerry. It is great to have another LBC back on the road.

What's left?

Well, until this morning, the trunk lid.
I still have the wheels to paint, new tires, install fender mirrors in the existing holes, install the trunk rack in those holes, paint the top frame, web it and install it and the top. But the next thing I need to do is get it legal... (while I work on the wheels)

-I should be driving very soon...

Thanks for all the kind words.

Tires? I kinda liked the white walls!
Jerry, where'd you purchase the cover over the gas tank. That looks very nice.
Thanks for posting and great work!

Looking awesome Jerry.

Dont laugh. Home depot. Its "black chalk board". I made a cardboard pattern, traced it and cut it out with a router. Thats probably why everything seems to take me longer.

Chalk board - great! Keep some chalk on hand and you can keep your maintenance log on it.

Let me add my congratulations on all your work!

New tires on 5.5" TR6 wheels, with early TR6 centers to support the "world". Slight problem with shift linkage last night that almost stranded me with 22 miles on the meter, but it's sorted out today. T125/70 in the spare boot leaves room for tools/etc. All that's left now is to paint the top frame/install.

Yesterday I found 5th gear and had it up to 70mph -or so the meter indicated, and since I was passing everyone in a 65mph zone on a crowded FM249, I kinda believed it. It felt good. Solid in corners, steers easily, stops nicely, pulls out well, etc. I was stopped by at least 5 people while getting gas for the first time. Also had people pulling along side and asking "what year is that". I stopped at a friends and had to suddenly leave when it started raining.

I'm more than half way now, and have come a very long way.

Car looks fantastic, you've done a great job, something to be proud of. Now it's time to do the sorting.

I need the paint color.....is it primrose Yellow?

As far as the name of the color, PPG calls it Orchid Yellow from a "2001 2002 N American Honda". It is PPGs cross reference thru paint changes from "Primrose yellow". My wife calls it butter.
