Green Stuff Brake Pads

Installed Green Stuff pads last month. They saved my summer of LBC driving the other night. A young girl almost bought me a new car after pulling in front of me. I never heard TR6 brakes light the tires up like that. It was the only thing that saved me.
I have noticed a very good improvement in braking. I have been told that somebody is marketing a Kevlar or equivalent shoe for 6's. Anybody know of a source?

Ted will put 'Kevlar' linings on anything you can take to him. Not sure what all he stocks, but I know he stocks some of them, too.

Thanks. I have dealt with Ted in the past. With TRF and other vendors so close, his name is not one that I think of on a regular basis.

I had a dealing with him years ago that left me a little disenchanted. Nothing major. I have bought from him since, but as I said, not a lot.
He is just a supplier I don't look to very often.

Ted is definitely a character, I've had some disagreements with him myself. Few years ago he was trying to sell a "NOS" Stag cylinder head that had clearly been installed before. But he's also a very good source of performance LBC parts.

My local independant auto parts store can also have almost anything relined. I've not asked them about 'Kevlar' linings, but I wouldn't be surprised if they can have that done as well. The rear shoes they did for my Stag seem to work fine with whatever they put on there.

Are you saying that the old brakes couldn't lock all 4 wheels ? If so, it's no wonder the TR6 folk are always looking for brake upgrades ! Last time someone pulled out in front of me in the TR3A, my biggest problem was getting my foot up off the brake pedal, so I could steer behind them ! Left 4 big black stripes on the pavement, too.

That is pretty amazing that you can do that with a TR3A because I don't have that confidence at all with my TR6. I have not tried the green stuff pads yet so I hope that will help. Are the calipers that much different on the TR3?

No, they aren't, which is why I'm puzzled. However, I guess they do have more leverage; as the TR3 has larger rotors and smaller tires. Also no booster or dual-circuit brakes, which may make a difference.

I did have shorter-than-stock tires; now that I think about it, it did tend to lock the rear tires first when I was running nearly-stock height tires. So maybe tire height plays more of a role than I thought.

And one brown one? I too have locked 'em up in a panic stop. Maybe not the most efficient stop but when you're looking at a large vehicle getting much larger all the time you jam the right foot down for all its worth.

Interesting that you have had shoes relined at an independent parts shop. I have tried and failed to find this service locally (for the TR3A 10" shoes) but I have been calling shops that specialize in friction material. I'll try some parts shops to see if they can help.

I have the Green Stuff pads on my TR6 and I do like the improved braking. I don't like the incredible amount of brake dust that they create, though.

I hit a deer a few years ago with my 6. I left forty feet of rubber in two straight lines. (At least the brakes weren't pulling in one direction.) The tires never made a sound. The deer and my hood made up for the lack of tire noise.
An acquaintence said he never liked the TR6 brakes because you couldn't lock them up. I wanted to show him the skid marks, but he had moved from the area.
