Fan Shroud Color BJ8

In my on-going detailing of the engine compartment, I’ve decided I want to re-paint the radiator fan shroud. Mine has a thin layer of black paint over the original red.

Does anyone know of a modern paint match for the red color? I’m not hung up on the exact color, but would like a paint code for something that looks reasonably correct. To me, it doesn’t appear to be the Colorado Red of the car.

Well Dar 100, go to a hardware store and purchase the darkest red paint in a small can. Brush this on and see how close it is. To brighten it add a spot of white paint, while darkening it will require a bit of black . Use a separate container with a small amount of the original paint to shade the paint until you are satisfied. OH! yes of course it was brushed on originally.---Keoke

The Concours Guidelines booklet is a very, very worthwhile investment for anyone doing any amount of restoration, even if not intending to produce a "concours car"! See:

I agree, and purchased one before starting my restoration. While advocating that purchase is the best option, is it bad manners to quote from the guide here on occasion? Sales of the guide must support, in part, it's preparation and maintenance, and if all questions could be answered here without purchase, who would buy?

Didn't mean to start a controversy, my original car is far from a concours, I also don't intent to do any restoration, as it doesn't need any! I'm just cleaning up 40 years of crud and grime. There's a little here and there that I'd like to re-arrange, like the fan shroud.

I wouldn't mind owning the guide eventually, but I still have kids at home and in college!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Keoke, I appreciate the advice about the paint. I'm not sure how I'd find out what they meant by "Chinese Red" 40 years ago. I'd be worth poking around for though.
