For those of you who have installed the Pro-Race, any frame cross member interference issues?

Thanks,
Duane

DW sell two dampers. One is listed as a crankshaft damper/pulley (which I take to be the Pro Race) and which they state as "meets all the specified requirements for standard engines".

The other is listed as a "Competition crank super damper" which is a bigger beast and which they state the requirement for slight modification to the chassis cross member.

I didn't have to modify mine.
Neither did I, but I'm thinking that I had to raise the engine up enough (couple inches?) to get clearance to put the socket on the crank-nut. Whatever the distance lifted, it didn't require anything to be disconnected.

They fit fine with sufficient clearance to easily get a new fanbelt on, but they're a very tight fit, so you have to boil them in a saucepan of water for long enough to get them good and hot before fitting. Having degrees from TDC marked is very useful IMO.

MY 2 cents:

Anything is better than that old cracked up thing you showed me

.

Richard Mayor :
I have seen them come apart standing in traffic waiting for the signal to change man it practically take the whole front end off the car.--It ain't --

Now you guys have me worried. I'm in the middle of building 3 BJ8 engines right now. Including Laynes engine. The dampers I have look good but now you have me thinking. Thats bad and expensive.

Sorry about the expensive part, but mine looked good too before it came apart.

the rubber gets old and brittle over time. Maybe lasts a lot longer then tire rubber but I'm sure there's some sort of useful life but who knows. There's always money and time if it comes apart for repairs but why do a job twice.

I replaced the damper in my BJ7 with the ProRace not only because the rubber was cracked but because the belt groove was chipped. Really had no choice, and I think I paid about $375 for it. Didn't have to modify the cross member but if I ever have to remove the damper with the engine in place it will have to be lifted about 3-4".

I want to thank EVERYONE who responded to my question, all of the combined knowledge here is truly amazing. :joyous:

After all considerations, and since I'll be driving my Healey allot here in SoCal, I opted for the new Pro-Race.

Thanks again,
Duane

Nice kit. In hindsight, I would have bought this instead of having my stock one rebuilt, but I was under the impression some front crossmember mods would have been necessary.

I have been unable to find a healey damper at BPnorthwest.com. They may have had it listed at $275 when this thread started, but it is no longer even mentioned on their website. Google has a cached image of that price, but it is unfortunately not available currently.

I ordered it, and received it, but it was not a ProRace. It was a brand I had never heard of. It looked used and was scratched, although it looked like an original unopened box. BPnorthwest.com was very nice, gave me a RA number and I returned it. They said they would credit me the full amount of purchase.

I then ordered a ProRace from https://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/sto...&Ne=1+2+3+13+1147708&searchTerm=healey+damper for 308.99 with free shipping. It's the one pictured in my post above. It was shipped from the ProRace warehouse directly to me. Shipping only took two days since the warehouse is in Temecula CA, close to me.

Thanks,
Duane
