Does anyone happen to know the amount of stock spring deflection (compression) incurred when setting the body back on the frame with the engine/transmission in place?
Currently with the frame, engine and transmission sitting on stock wheels and old redline tires, I measure 23 1/4" from the floor to the top of the front spring tower and 20" from the floor to the top of the parcel shelf brackets in the rear. These measurements are 2" greater than a fully laden '74 that is in my shop patiently awaiting its turn. The front upper A arm is just barely touching the top of the spring tower housing and the angle between the tie rods and steering rack is much too steep. It almost appears that the road springs are too long, but they are within a 1/16" in height as compared to new. While the '74 may be suffering a bit of sag, there was no visible difference between the cars before the rebuild.
I may be way out of line, but I do not see the body and interior plus the other misc pieces compressing the springs another 2". There just is not that much weight, or is there?
What have I missed here? Any thoughts? Thanks.
