T-Series 1977 MGB ignition switch

Greetings,

During a recent move from the Milwaukee area to Denver I (gasp!) lost the key for my 1977 MGB Roadster. Yes, I had only one key, and that was sufficient during the rebuild (which is not yet done, but that is another story).

Now the question: how hard is it to get the current ignition switch / column lock re-keyed, or am I about to spend $180 or so for a new assembly?

Oh, by the way, I truly appreciated the earlier threads about how to remove the lock mechanism using a Dremel tool.

Not hard at all. Remove the cowl. There is a screw holding the ignition switch to the lock. Remove the screw and the switch will slide out of the lock, now the car can be started with a screwdriver. To remove the lock, slot the two shear bolts and use a big screwdriver to remove the lock from the column. Take the lock to a locksmith and have a couple of keys made. You can use a couple of cap screws to replace the bolts if you want.
Should take about half an hour.

If the locksmith doesn't have key blanks, you can get them from Moss...
