Hi-
Still having problems with starting. All grounds re-checked, solenoid replaced. Starter motor turns but crankshaft only a tad, if at all. I had thought that the starter pinion is normally retracted from ring gear, and that upon current, it flies forward to engage, then retreats when...
New owner here,
the car starts every time but the first to fourth start it just gives up after a brief crank. It’ll then crank a good spin then start.
battery is new and I’ve checked the battery terminals.
any opinions on the high torque starters I’ve seen advertised?
thanks Dave Walsh
Hi all,
More and more frequently, my starter is not engaging and thus not turning the motor. Usually it does engage after a few tries, but it's annoying to not have it engage every time. Is this a common problem with a common solution?

Hi all,
Beginning to see issues with starter engaging....”sometimes” .....good battery (best I can tell) turn key to top position ignition lights on, turn key to start .....nothing.....turn key again....nothing.....turn key again .....strong turn and success
Happens cold or at running...
i recently acquired a mid 59 TR3a. the engine spins nicely without plugs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JohmGGe7HSo (note this is done via the starter motor; it is not running)
but when i install the plugs it hardly turns at all. i'm thinking the problem is the starter motor? i'm planning...
hey everyone,
been awhile since I've posted but i'm at a loss and need a starting point. my 58' TR3a runs absolutely perfect. fires right up (initially), runs perfectly... doesn't miss a beat. I have zero complaints with the way she's been running this year since my rebuild.
However... after...
My TR6 wasn't turning over, but the new starter was spinning like it should. Had a hunch it might be the flywheel, and pulled the starter to view the ring gears this evening. It turns out the ring gear had slid back a good bit, making sure the starter wouldn't reach. I have never had to deal...
Gentlemen,
I think the pictured starter is the "Bullnose" or "Bomb" type used on pre-TS50000 cars. Is that correct? From what I have read, supposedly this will work fine with post TS50000 cars (with the transmission bulge) as long as there is a press-on flywheel ring, but one should not try...
I wrestled the original OEM TR8 starter out of my '80 TR8 project and have a Rover-spec replacement (like BP Northwest has listed at https://www.bpnorthwest.com/triumph/tr7-tr8/engine-electrical/starter-gear-reduction-new-rover-v-164.html.) The original starter has a unique setup for...
Hi everyone... me again.
Completely hooked everything up.... ready to start. but, slight problem: starter motor won't engage.
I don't think it's the actual motor... it worked perfectly before the engine rebuild. It would be a pretty big coincidence that it happened to break while out of the...
The short version
I've got a Bugeye. The starter engages, gives the engine a push, but won't turn the engine over. There's only a few ohms resistance in the circuit, and it fails even when I try to jump it. What should I be looking for? What should I try?

The long version
I very recently...
The starter on my BN7 has been acting up as of late. When I push the starter, the starter motor turns faster than usual and does not engage the flywheel.
Battery was installed a couple of months ago...
Is there a quick fix or do I need to change SOLENOID, starter.
Thanks all
