I used fleet paint on the TR250 as well, it was the only line that I could get Valencia blue in. It did spray good. We did put a clear coat on outside but I did't clear underneath or tub. I have a 4a to do in powder blue so I will probably do it like yours.

Still puttering along.Wiper assembly, master cylinders, wiring harness, etc. I have a mountain of parts on hand so no excuses now. I don't have everything to finish the resto, but enough to put it back together and drive it.

Mink, Don't know what you do for a living, but if it's not restoring work, you missed your calling.
How good is that wiring harness? Don take a chance on a iffey, these cars have been known to self destruct.

you are just about caught up with me on the 250 and I started a good 6 months before you. I see you have the trunk seal in place. Does the trunk lid close and fit good. I had to cut mine about a third of the way off to let the trunk lid go down enough to close. I hope to have dash done today

Thanks. Wiring harness is fine. I fixed all of its issues last summer and now I'm re-wrapping it in the original blue. It's a semi-custom affair since the car has a GM alternator and someone had already removed the voltage regulator wiring from the harness anyway.

Hi Marv. Yeah, that trunk seal is a pain. It still wants to pull off the bottom section even with gorilla glue. It's a tight fit but closes well.

Gorilla glue is how I finally got it to hold. Be aware that there at least 2 profiles sold by major vendors.

You might look at which you have. Sorry, I do not know where I got mine though if it is important and can dig through the receipts and probably find out.
 
Not at all like the one I installed. It had a larger lip. I took a new razor blade and trimmed it back, fits and closes good now.
Going to pickup seats this afternoon before winter storm comes though.

On mine (working from memory) there is a metal plate that the 'bolt' goes through. The bolt then goes through the inverted spare and catches a hook on the bottom of the boot cavity.

Found a photo...

Note how the boot lid actually holds the cover in the up position by slightly over-extending when you lift the boot lid and slipping the cover behind the cross piece. Works so slick it must have been designed to do this, yet I do not recall reading it in the owners manual.

Specifically, my question is about the plate for the lower hook (the one mounted in the trunk). There is a rectangular metal plate that I assume goes inside the trunk, but I'm not 100% sure.
 
That sounds right but I hate to trust my memory. I have a photo of that too - but it is tantalizingly small:

Went out to the garage for a look. Mine is on the lift at the moment so can't dig into the boot but from underneath I can say -- there is no plate on the underside (just the bolt through the cross tube with some packing between the cross tube and the body)

Thanks, that helps a lot. It really only makes sense for the plate to be inside the trunk. I didn't know about the packing between the body and tube. I'll have to improvise something.
