If you really mean the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve, there shouldn't be any affect.
An EGR takes a small amount of exhaust gas under high-vacuum conditions (but usually not idle), and feeds it back into the intake. The purpose of it is to reduce the combustion temperatures to reduce a specific pollutant (NOx, I think). It is basically "dead" air volume added to the mixture (there should be very little oxygen or fuel in the exhaust).
If you actually mean the crank case ventilation system, then there will be changes needed.

Wayne, he's talking about the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve not a Positive Crankcase Ventillation device (valve), of which there is no PCV valve per se on his car.
Larry, I don't see any negative effect by removing the EGR. The return tube is probably clogged up with exhaust particles anyway.
I just ran my finger around the inside of the tail pipe and asked myself, 'do I really want to sent this stuff back into the combustion chambers ?'
No timing issues. I'm always tweaking carbs, so I don't recall if I made any adjustments when I removed the EGR, but I don't see why it would be necessary

Larry, I removed the EGR on my 78 spitfire and inserted threaded plugs into the holes where it used to be. There has been no change in performance changes at all and no changes made to the carb. Has run extremely well this way for four years now including several trips to Wash DC and Sandusky OH. I believe you should be fine to remove it.
Maybe this is coincidence but on my TR6 I have the valve was removed. Prior to removal the car did no oil leak from the engine ( sounds impossible but I swear it didn't leak). After the removal it did leak. So I do think that there is some effect of removing the valve.

Thanks guys, it has been a while since I removed an EGR and probably did other tweeks at the same time. Also, this is the first Triumph I've worked on and I learn something new every time I get into it. It has been an interesting and enjoyable build. Also nice to be able to pick a few brains to reenforce my thoughts or get pointed in the right direction. Now if my CRS disease would allow me to retain this info, I'd be good.
