Breakdown around the next bend.

Yesterday, I was driving the TR6 in full blown, downtown,
Christmas traffic on the way to meet Gardener and his wife
for the first time. Very nice folks indeed. I highly
recommend their very fine garden shop.

I could not help but notice my odomoter had just clocked
past 1600 miles and the engine was still operational and
no wheels had fallen off. That was odd? - a bunch of miles
with no breakdown-kinda snuck up on me.

I was really tempted to shut off the engine, call AAA and
catch a ride home before the breakdown event took place.

I'll work some more of the folded metal piece between the carbs.
I mean. I am a designer for goodness sakes.

Tinster,

You really need to be a bit more "OPTIMISTIC" vs "PESIMISTIC" with that car of yours!!!

Tinster,
You've worked the major Gremlins out so you need a positive attitude and praise your car in an affectionate tone.
Granted, I maintain my TR3 religiously, but I've driven 10k miles trouble free. They really are robust when properly fettled.
Good car. Good car....

At this rate, Dale, next you'll be asking AAA to follow you everywhere
you drive 'ole Amos with their flatbed. Poor ole car. You've got no
faith. Drive on and enjoy, Bro.

I think it is a good time to revisit this thread, entitled, "Quick - tell me about your TR driving big miles." It's full of good cheer and tales of long-range TR driving. Just trying to send some good vibes on over to P.R. for Tinster and Amos...

Dale, I think I have a set of 2 of those spring-steel folded metal pieces but these are heavy duty ones, a lot thicker than OE, but for the TR6. Let me know if you need them and I will stick them in an envelope to PR.

Bill,

That is a gracious offer, but those are the ones that I advised Dale NOT to use. Very little forgiveness in those and he may get sticking idle when warm or cold if carbs are not in perfect alignment. And even if they are, he may still have issues.

I would recommend that he get a NEW set of stock couplers.

Krikey!!! I've been under the impression that you've been recommending that he just DRIVE it and ENJOY it. Have you changed your mind? How about TWO NEW sets of stock couplers? I don't think his boot is quite full, yet...

As this thread developed, I said that he should replace them because the metal was beyond it's spring back ability. This issue occurred after the "just drive it recommendation" and Dale has fixed the alignment issue with spacers, but to be safe I think that he should replace the couplers.

So, to answer your question, no, I haven't changed my mind about the driving, but these little bugs crop up from time to time and need to be addressed.

Yep; Your right Moseso,

"2" sets is the answer. One set of the "Heavy Duty" and one set of the "Stock" ones.

Test ea. one out & see which performs best.

Then an "ENGINE RE-BUILD"!!!!!!

You can spend the money now or you can spend more later!

I find it's less of a headache to just get the new parts 99% of the time!

Don-

When this engine is rebuilt, it will be somewhere in a
Japanese steel mill being melted down and then rebuilt
into a Home Depot lawnmower or something.
