MGA body roll reduction

As the driver get faster in the MGA racer he now has slight tire rub.

What are the spring and sway bar options to stiffen the old girl up even more?

I believe it currently has stock springs with a pretty beefy sway bar up front.

Cheers

MGAs are fairly stiff and you say that this one has a beefy front sway bar.

This makes me wonder if it has the correct size tires? (and maybe wider, offset rims?)

In a normal MGA, there's a fair amount of tire to fender clearance and this should be no problem.

At any rate, I know there are others here who may have more recent MGA experience (I sold mine 40 years ago).

For the absolute best competition info on MGA suspension, I'd contact Kent Prather at:

MGAs like stiffer front springs, a decent size sway bar (3/4" to 7/8" for racing), and soft rear springs.

But you stiffen a car up because it handles better that way, not to cure some clearance problem, which should be addressed by diagnosing it and creating clearance by using smaller tires, or folding fender lips or.....

.when I raced a MGA in the 70's (no real majore suspension mods)
I found a heavy sway bar in the front was fine.. once I added a rear bar, I oversteered like mad, and therefore took it off..

never really had a problem with tire rub, and these ere tall 7.5 inch wide blue streaks..(once I went to slick, they were lower profile and I had no problem)

IO did though have a wandering back end, where I found that the whole back end would sway over on cornering.. it felt as though the car had rear wheel steering a bit.. a panhard rod cured that.. and it was extremely easy to fabricate.

again this is back in the days, when we still had to run the lever shocks and such...

still looking for my A, went to Florida in 79...

been racing a spitfire sicnce then (at the time, it was faster and HA,HA more readily available parts!!!!!!)

Bob, check with David Headley, he has a nice set up for the rear of a vintage MGB, that I'm sure would work on the A as well.

hap..
basically the rear end to both the B and A are exactly the same..

I remember picking up a rear axle assembley of a B that I ran on the G-Prod A..

(that's why in the end I kept all this axle components.. I mean, I paid a $100 for back in the (ha, ha) 70's/...)

as a matter of fact the front end is pretty darned close to..
I landed up putting in a set of rear tubular shocks on my street a..

they were only advertised for B's.. fit with no problem..
and, little did I know, one of my front shocks is actually to a B..

the the fender well was cut out by 1/4 inch to accomodate the difference..

Hey, I am sure all the purist out there are sucking their breath right now., but, I drive mine..

as a matter of fact it got a nicle long scratch along the side along with some door jam dings..

and I like it that way... If I put a $5,000 paint job on it, i would be so nervous about it, that I would keep it wrapped in bubble wrap!
