Missing vendor - rustfreeroadsters.com

Does anyone know what happened to www.rustfreeroadsters.com? They sold stainless hardware kits and other various parts, and just disappeared a couple of months ago. The website is now for sale and has a generic page of links. Thanx.

I think that the product that they sold did not sell. I, like some, bought the basic stainless set for the TR6 and soon discovered that much of the hardware was stainless that was to be used in an area that required a hardness number that they didn't have. Like structural bolts holding the engine up. Stainless split washers have a tendency to not hold like steel. The alternator parts made good paperweights, totally didn't fit. My calls to them fell on deaf ears. I suppose others felt the same way. I ended up throwing away 80% of the stuff. Bummer. I am not one to trash a vendor, but you can get all of this stuff from a good nut-and-bolt shop at a better quality and better price.

To clarify a bit, I use only SAE #8 or better on my TR6. None of the stainless in this kit was even close. I put several of the kit bolts in a dead-end tapped block and snapped the heads off at 60lb of torque. Not good. If you want #8 stainless, you will pay. If you can find it. Stick with stock or buy a cadmium plating setup if you want show.

Thanks for the quick reply! After reading about your experience with them, I'm not surprised that they are gone. I think I'll take your advice and stick with stock.

I think rustfreeroadster.com was just a website/retail operation. They were supplied by another hardware vendor, whose name I have since forgotten. It was a novel idea to package bolt kits thus alleviating the details for the rest of us. I have used boltdepot.com and they are very quick and professional. I have also used a company called aircraftspruce.com for suspension/driveline hardware requiring a longer "grip" area. They also supply bolts predrilled to receive safety wire or cotter pin.
