How much work is involved with removing the front wings on my BJ8?
I did feel inside the engine bay for the shroud/wing join and felt what seemed to be clips?

Just a little patience and a good set of sockets.

Yes there are basket nuts there that the wing screws thread into they fee like clips

Remove the door on the side you plan on removing the wing from.

.Similarly, the fender beading is retained by small metal flaps that are bent back over the wing/body flanges and must be straightened out.

A factory manual can be invaluable here in locating all the fasteners.---Keoke

Keoke the go to guy. And usually the first to offer help :savewave:

Here's a break down:
1. Remove the headlight.
2. Remove the turn signal (s)
3. Bend all the tabs straight that hold the beading on.
4. Remove all the screws, found in the following access areas:
Front wheel well
Through the engine compartment
From under the dash

Sockets and wrenches are needed.
The fun part is seeing how limber you are trying to get to the screws from the engine compartement and under the dash.

You may or may not find some sort of sealing material (dum-dum) sealing the stainless bead against the wing or shroud.

Good luck and have fun

Maybe it is because I live in New England, but I recommend you spray those basket nuts with your favorite penetrating oil for a few days before you try to turn the cap screws.

It's not too hard getting them off, it's putting them back on that's difficult.

You have to remove the air ducting first. Make sure you disconnect the battery also.

You can get an idea of the type of hardware by looking where the fenders (wings) meet the shroud under the headlights. They too must be removed. I think all of them are 7/16" screws that thread into clips that were inserted on the wing, the screw head is inside the engine bay.

Good luck, let us know your progress.

Yeah

It's the one right in the middle that is the real problem, I still have that one out, must get around to trying to get that one in some time. The ones (3) I think that are reached through the head lamp opening can be tricky too, especially the last one at the back, just a flat at a time. Make sure that you install a short bolt there when putting it all together.
