What do you think of this one? [modified 100]

Perusing the E-bay listings I saw this car, https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/195...8201673?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c329c80c9 Looks like a competent job of a modified nasty boy, what struck me though is the deletion of the fender beads and smoothed out fender to shroud seams. While I usually look at this type of thing as a cheap paint and bondo job, I have to admit that to my eye it makes the lines of the car look even prettier, especially looking at the rear view pictures.

Very nice work and he has achieved what he set out to do, which is make a Healey hot rod. Personally I think that removing the beading makes the car look more like a kit car made out of fibreglass. I don't like the wheels either. If I had a Nasty Boy I'd like it to be a stock 100, with bumpers removed and a nice V8/drivetrain but no other major changes.

Very nicely done. The removal of the fender beading from the rear gives it a Cobra look. The Chevy motor is a bit wider than the small block Ford and requires the footwells to be narrowed a bit more, which you can see in the photos. The one thing not to my taste is the Supertrapp mufflers. They just look jarring to me. And despite the louvered hood and leather strap, he's not trying to pass it off as a genuine 100M

Agreed, the Supertrapps look completely out of place/time period. I like the original looking interior and the original style dash. A lot of these cars suffer from the "racing buckets and plywood dash with the cheapest instruments available" syndrome. I also like the fact he didn't go ape with the rear fender flares. The only real gripe I have is with the later engine, if it was originally drag raced with a 283, why not stick with that?

Hello ,

if I see the well done big work package or costs and the real bad value on the market... in europe there is no market for extrem modified cars.
You can easier throw your time or your money on the lane... I can understand that I like those cars (power, reliability or other reasons ), but than I would not sale this car forever.
My best friend who life in Michigan told me the best value in the states do you reach if the car is in top of the line original condition. In europe too...

Bye michel- who is an original enthusiast or fetishist....

Well as long as you are asking, here's what I think: It doesn't look as good as an Austin Healey, but I wouldn't mind taking it out for a spin.

I think it looks rather nice myself, however if I was going to drop the sort of asking price they want I would rather get the genuine article. I have always had a bit of a love-hate view of rods. On the one hand many classics have been chopped and changed, on the other hand, many that would have otherwise gone to the scrap heap have been preserved in some form. I should also note that I would not be in the least bit tempted to do such a thing to my 100.

I was mostly commenting on the beading being gone, which when well done really changes the looks of the car in my opinion, as far as the rest, I agree with most about the exhaust and big rear wheels being a little over the top. If I HAD to have a modified 100 I guess I wouldn't turn this car down https://modifiedhealeys.org/Photos/34Delzer/Delzer1.htm Caught my eye when I saw it on the net, years ago, tastefully done.

Having owned a pretty correct cobra replica and a some what correct Healey, I can say that I really enjoyed them both. Different animals and both good that they were made to do. I enjoyed the cobra on the track and setting off alarms, the Healey for the afternoon cruise and not pissing off my neighbors. So, perhaps a nasty, streetable Healey like Ricks is the best of both worlds?
