This is a friend of mine that split a TR3 body in half and widened it to mount on a TR6 chassis, and then installed a Nissan 240SX driveline.

Randy works at a local college and has access to specialised machining, and is a very handy guy when it comes to solving the many problems this sort of project always present. In fact he is the guy that did the 'MG' engraving on the upper plenum of the 3.4 GM engine I put in my Jamaican.

Take a quick peek, you might find it interesting.

Really nice work, I like it a lot. Not sure I could afford such effort though.

Well, I see how he resolved the windscreen issue.

Actually, he has widened the windscreen using sections from 2 to make one and has some glass on line.

It is an interesting car as unless you are a TR nut, if you see it in isolation, it looks right. If you see it beside another stock one is when the bells start going off.

I think he solved most of the stock silliness with the IRS suspension by doing what he did. BTW, I believe that 240 BHP is fairly easy if you want to turbo, but he is happy with the stock 240 engine.

Reminds me of the video I watch last night where a guy dropped a PI prelude motor into his Mini. Man, it is sweet.
Then i watches 1 about a 62 Vdub van with a 500HP Porsche motor running a road race course. Now that was impressive!!!

I love that one! There's another video taken from the view of a porsche on that course (or maybe it was an Aston Martin) and at one point you see this same '62 bus passing him on the inside! I gotta find a 500 hp motor for MY van!

I forget that I rarely post here and many Triumph people may not venture to the MG section where I do post.

My own engine swap project started life as a 1956 MGA. It has changed a bit. Anyone recognise the engine and body (those who have been to the Dark Side on the MG section please don't speak up).

Hello? The first six words of the article were: "The inspiration to undertake this conversion...". Why can't people trouble to read things before they comment on them? The article continued with a particularly articulate explanation of the motivation behind hot-rodding. Read it once, and you'll never have to ask "why" again.

An excerpts from the article:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]...the classic early TR3 body was the strongest styling statement Triumph ever made. It defined the spirit of British sport motoring. The TR6 chassis represents Triumph's highest development of the body-on-frame concept, featuring independent rear suspension as well as rack and pinion steering. My intention was to produce a vehicle that captured the essence of the TR3, except with better handling, brakes, and engine. I also wanted modern reliability...[/QUOTE]
