Two Longbridge BN4 Questions - Indicator Light and Washer System

We are now working on wiring up the various items in the dash to the new harness.

The harness (from Moss) has a light green colored wire with a light socket attached to it. The new plastic indicator warning light unit/socket (at least that is what I think it is - the light that fits just above and between the speedo and tach) came from Moss. I snipped the light off the green wire and wired it to the back of warning light socket and added a ground wire. The light on the wiring harness would not fit into the back of the plastic warning light unit. Does this sound right, or am I missing something?

Second question has to do with the windshield washer system. I do have the old washer pump that fits on the dash, but the push rod is seized and soaking in rust penetrant. The rubber cone inside has seen better days. Any ideas on a source for new parts or for a replacement pump? Or maybe someone has one hanging around that they are willing to part with. Of course I also need the glass bottle and holder for the bottle, but that might be an impossible dream.

I did find what looks to be the original parcel tray that the bottle fits into. It still has remnants of the old red carpet on the top and red vinyl on the edges and underside.

Thanks for any help!

On mine, the light green wire goes to the turn signal indicator between the speedo and tach. The light socket fits in a plastic holder/lens. The [ignition] warning light, with a yellow wire, goes in the tach.

Thanks, John. That is what I meant to say - the light green wire goes to the turn signal indicator. What seems confusing is that the light socket that is part of the new harness does not fit into that plastic holder. So I snipped the wire and attached it to the bulb socket that came with the plastic piece.

I've been out of the loop, but seems like there was somebody that either sourced a similar, or reproduced a glass jar. They occasionally turn up on ebay too, but you'll have to keep your eyes open.

Jim on here (aka healey blue) made his own bracket for the glass jar, and it seems that he posted a really nice drawing of it too.

As for the pump, the rubber inside mine has disintegrated, but the chrome and all was still good, so I gutted it and put a momentary-contact button inside and hid a cheap (so cheap, it already quit...) generic electric pump up under the cowl.

Here's a link to more pictures than shown below: https://spcarsplus.com/gallery3/index.php/Healey-at-home/Longbridge-Squirter

That is an interesting idea, Randy. Maybe I will try something similar in the future.

Soaking the threaded nut at the front of unit finally worked today; it was part of a surplus dash panel - the only piece left on that panel. On closer examination, the rubber cone shaped part inside seems old, but free of holes and still flexible. The part of the cone that originally fit over the rear disc has disintegrated. So, on reassembly, I used a bit of RTV type sealant in an attempt to seal the cone to the metal disc. Once the RTV sets, the unit might actually work to pull and push liquid. At least it will do until, if and when, one in better condition comes along.

Here are a few pics of the pieces and of the unit installed in the dash. Assembling the dash was fun; sort of like doing a jigsaw puzzle. I was going to cut a hole in the face for the choke, but, fortunately, came across information that the early Longbridge BN4s had the choke mounted underneath the dash. A search of the parts pile that came with the car then turned up the original choke brackets and choke unit, in usable condition. I wonder whether there is a source for a good reproduction unit? Now, to remember that the choke control is hiding there under the dash . . .

For the correct reproduction of the bottle cap you can use a jetprinter and a program that can reduce or enlarge this photo-- probably Diameter of 6 cm are correct

PS I have TWO W.pumps that can be utilized for spare pieces (but shipment probably are more exp. than new pump)
I have prefered to follow RANDY and have a electric pump-- continue on my album to see my solution
-I am not interested in any way with AHead4Healey
