TR4/4A TR4 Master Cylinders

Folks,

I have heard that the master cyliders are anodized aluminum and should not be honed during a rebuild, as honing will remove the anodizing within the bore and result in failure of the seal.
Does anyone know if this is ture, or does anyone have an alternative approach to rebuilding brake and clutch master cylinders?

Most will suggest or recommend having the master cylinder re-sleeved if you feel it needs honing. Apple Hydraulics did a nice job on mine. They don't guarantee their work if you're using DOT5 though. I use DOT5 and didn't worry about it (no leaking problems).

Ron, if running a hone a couple of times down the shaft will not clear it up, replace it. I have been doing this a long time and if you think it might be questionable, it won't hold. That pitting you see at the end of the shaft will not clear with a hone and if it does you have made it too large to seal.

I agree with Wayne. I never had any issues rebuilding them and lightly using a hone to clean up the bore (no pitting).
