I was looking into why the door not opening and closing properly. That was easily fixed when I discovered that the door check mounting plate had come loose from the door, which also explained the loose screw I found on the floor of the car. So, since the inner working of the door were exposed I decided to lube the latch mechanism and repair the lock in the door handle. All that went well and I was able to remove the lock barrel and modify it to work with the key for the glove box and boot lid. Reassembly presented a new problem. There is a round cylinder of cast pot metal about 9/16" in diameter and about 1/2" high with a square hole through the center to fit over the 5/16" square shaft of the door handle. This part also has one external lobe so that it fits into door latch operating mechanism. When you turn the door handle this bit serves as a bearing for the square shaft and converts the rotary motion to a lateral motion pulling on the door latch and opens the door. This part fractured into four pieces and I have not found a source for a replacement. Anyone have a source for one of these?
