Thoughts on aftermarket air cleaners?

Looking for opinions on air cleaners. I have the Burgess filters on my 100/4 but I'm not fond of them. Not only are they a PITA to get on and off. Worst part is the throat holes are 1.25 inches in diameter while the carb throats are 1.5 inches in diameter. I suspect they are robbing me of a pit of power. So I am curious to hear what folks think of the various aftermarket options out there. Thanks.

I have an itg filter on my two HD-8s. Much easier to deal with than the originals, although I have to take off the filter element to get to my integral master cylinders. It is easy to remove & replace, though.

is it the red flat framed one that has the exposed foam element with itg on it?

Those ITG filters look very interesting, but a wee bit pricey. Hmm. John, could you tell a performance difference? Also, in the photos on the Dennis Welch site the holes for the air clearners look askew, such that the filter assembly would ride higher towards the rear of the car than the front. Is that the case with the actual product? Thanks for all the ideas.

I have just removed an Itg filter that I was running with twin HD8s. The holes are not parallel so that the filter is at a slight angle when fitted and it can fit under the shroud.

That's correct, just as Derek said. As for noticing a difference, I did a bunch of modifications at once: rebuilt the engine, aluminum head, fast cam, headers, replaced the HD6s with HD8s, .... To many changes to separate out the difference.

Two months ago I put K&N air filters on the BJ8. Charlie Hart modifies a set of standard K&N filters to fit the HD8's. Car seems to breath much better.

Took a little fiddling but Charlie has that worked out now and should bolt right on. Highly recommended.

Also, there's no fitting for the breather hose from the valve cover to connect to the rear air cleaner. I purchased a breather from Toms Imports for that purpose. Drip cans, etc., can be made. Who wants to coat the foam filiter with an oil film? Not me. Tuning carbs would be faster, etc.

Since I don't have a brake servo, but do have a BJ8 intake manifold, I used a PVC valve and vent to the manifold. BTW, foam filters have to be coated with a film of something sticky. ITG makes a spray for that purpose.
