Wow, what a wild a crazy trip it has been, and so obvious it should have never happened.
It started last year on the way to TRF summer fest. I had taken my car to the garage and got the tires balanced for the trip and on the ride I had a vibration in the front. To summrize it here is what I did to try to fix it
-re-balanced the tires
-Replaced the leaky power steering system with a manual one
-had the rims true-ed to make sure it was not out of balance
-new wheel bearings
-new rims
-new tires
-new bushings
-a new ball joint
and that is not even counting the mutliple wheel balancing
My son spotted it first, so small I never noticed even though I had touched the part a hundred times. The wheel hub had been slightly mushroomed on one edge. Not much, hardly noticable. Took it to the alignment shop and they measured it and they beleived that it was the cause.
Got a hub from Woody, swapped in my new wheel bearings, and alas, a year long chase is over.
My guess is that the Nation tire chain that balanced my tires (I never use them but I wanted my tires balanced before the trip) dropped my car and the hub took the brunt of it.
The stuff I replaced was all in need so I do not really consider it wasted money, the time I spent laboring and stressing over it cost me many gray hairs and evenings where I will never get back the time spent cursing in the garage.
I always tell my soldiers look for the small things and I failed to do the same. So obvious.
Took the 8 to work today on the 170 mile round trip and he runs so well, except that little bit of white smoke from the exhaust.....
