I pulled the head on The Junkpile B, all intake valves stuck open. I had started it up and let it warm up on Friday, it ran great. When I got the carbs off the intake, my suspicions were confirmed. Mass quantities of GOO. I set the intake aside. By the time I got the head off, there was some stuff that looked like asphalt crack sealer dripping out of the intake. I have a set of carbs off a 69 donor car on the JPB and they look great. I got the head off and tapped the intake valves shut. Compressed the springs and removed the keepers. I then (not too)gently tapped the valves out. Lots more GOO. Cleaned them up and cleaned out the intake ports and the valve seats. With a thin coat of oil, they went back in. They open and shut smoothly. Head set should be here tomorrow morning. I will put new seals on the valves and reassemble the head. Pistons and cylinder walls look good. No GOO on the pistons. The current goal is to have it on the road this week. With studded snow tires on the rear, it really handles our snow nicely. Oh what fun it is to ride in a 90 hp open B!
