General Tech Starting a screw in a tight location...

Trying to start a Phillips screw in a spot where I can only get one hand...so I can't hold the screw with the other hand... can't start it by hand either...and the screw isn't steel, so a magnet won't help. Here's my 5 minute solution...

Clamped the Phillips screwdriver in the vise - pointy end up. Put a drop of super glue into the + on the screw. Put the screw in place on the driver. Came back 5 minutes later and installed the screw with no problem. The super glue held it tight to the driver, but pulled off easily once the screw was tight.

Butyl windshield seal works well, too. Just a "pinch" on the tool tip and you've got a stainless/aluminum "magnet."

Those would be nice to have. I've got a screw starter for a standard blade that was my Dad's. It been used mostly over the years for installing points. Don't have one for Phillips though...

Between this and the rad and even the wiring, whole lot O McGyver going on - well done! The simple solutions are typically the best!

I love a good bodge.

I've a couple of the 'grabber' style screw-sticks, one has a slot head on one end and Phillips on the other. Use 'em more for computer work than automotive apps now.
