Speedometer drive issue

I have a 3.5 diff with a conversion gearbox for the speedometer mounted behind the dashboard. The inner flex shaft in the short section of cable between the gearbox and the speedometer head is about 8" long and the tip going into the gearbox has worn and occasionally allows the other end of the shaft to disengage from the head so that the speedo does not function.

I need a source for the inner speedometer drive cable, not the entire jacket/cable but simply a short length--perhaps 8"--of the inner drive cable. Any source suggestions--or donations of old shaft--will be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to ask if you've done this but have you checked to see if there are any speedometer/ tachometer repair shops near you. You might check with your local tractor dealer or a heavy equipment shop. When I had my tach and speedometer rebuilt I had issues with the cables and they just made new ones to my exact specifications. In fact they made a 3rd one for free because I goofed and was 3/8 inch too short on one. It is probably getting to be a lost trade due to electronic crap, but I'll bet if you poke around on the net you'll find one not too far away.

The shop where I had the work done about 15 years ago is no longer in business though there is one in Glen Burnie MD about 75 miles north of me. What I don't know is how to describe or spec out the original speedo drive cable so I was hoping that someone in the forum either had that information or a spare piece. If need be I suppose I could contact Nisonger's in New York who works on Healey and other LBC instruments. Just hoping to get lucky.

Michael, if I'm reading this right, you need a short length of speedo cable, but if it's going into the speedo you need a piece with the fitting/collar on the end, no?

Unfortunately, I think I chucked the last inner cable I replaced (but I'll check my parts bin). Also, the drive ends need to be squared-off; I've never had much luck trying to do this.
