Speedi-sleeve for Timing Cover Seal

Does any one know of a source for a speedi-sleeve for the front seal on a TR3 engine? Moss doesn't seem to be offering them anymore. Mahalo.

For the less knowledgeable, especially with TR3’s, what is a speedi-sleeve. If it helps a TR3, maybe it will help my TR6 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

An ultrathin steel (usually) collar or sleeve that slips tightly over the end of a shaft, like the drive shaft, to enlarge that end to bring it back up to specs as far as size is concerned, usually to make the fit of a seal a better fit.
It is an accepted way of fixing a problem like leaking seals. I have a SpeediSleev on the rear of my crank to stop a leak back there.

As TR6BILL mentioned, it's to repair a worn shaft where the seal rides. Over time, a seal will actually wear a groove in the shaft...this is what the sleeve retifies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I received the latest Moss catalogue yesterday and they list the speedi-sleeve (Moss # 520-505) in it still.

Thanks for that, last week that part number would not work in an on-line search at Moss.

As Bill and Martx described, there is a shallow groove worn in the fan hub by the oil seal. A speedi-sleeve slided over the hub and provides a smooth "new" surface for seal to ride on and allows the use of the original size seal. Another place these are used is in rear ends.

SKF now owns Chicago Rawhide. As you can tell by the name CR is an old company. If you're interested in their history here is another link;

In a previous life I used their seals in my designs. It's interesting to read their catalog if you're into that kind of thing. With a little research and some fairly precise measurements you can find what you need to repair your shaft and a seal to replace the existing seal.

I tried one on a tr3 once many years ago. The problem I had was after I got the sleeve on it would not go into seal end. Perhaps I needed a bigger seal or needed to force it in a little more. I final went out and got new/good used shaft and put it back stock.

I used the speedi sleeve on the TR4 shaft and it worked fine. Come to think of it I also used one on a Jag rear axle with success.

It was five years ago and I don't recall. I sourced it from a supplier here in the San Fernando Valley. I'd think if you used the link bobh supplied you could source it locally or find the info you need.
