So to get back to your original question, I'd have my doubts too. Obviously, they've done it. The question is what (if any) were the modifications. In my mind, the two weak spots are the hinges and the prop rod. The hinges have only a single bolt going into an un-reinforced shroud. If you remember an old post of mine, the shroud was flexing with just the trunk lid itself. The prop rod is so far off center that the lid hangs down on the opposite side. I'd think adding gas struts to both sides <span style="font-style: italic">could</span> fix that issue. Probably the safest thing would be to remove the tire from the car every time you want access to the trunk. A big hassle if you ask me.
