This past weekend I was invited to be the "guest speaker" at the Vermont Over-Land Rover Rally in Rockingham, VT. I live on an island whose ferry service becomes impossible in the summer season, so I took my '80 Spitfire [which serves as the "mainland car" in the summer] on the 500-mile round trip.
I left on a sunny Friday morning in a convoy of two Land Rovers and returned on a very stormy Sunday in a convoy of three Land Rovers. That was the day the windshield wiper motor died after about one hour of operation; every effort on the side of the road to make them work failed. Driving in the pouring rain with no wipers was a challenge. So, too, was the moment, about 10 miles from the ferry, when smoke drifted out from the windshield wiper stalk. Removing the connector and the wires at the moment snuffed out the electrical issue .
Here's the video I made about the trip.
