Rear Suspension Measurements

I measured the rear of my 68 mgb and from the chrome to the floor it is 25". I believe my rear leaf springs are worn out due to the fact they are original. Could someone who has new leaf springs please tell me the measurements of the rear of their car? Thanks

Having recently gone through this I will tell you what I found. I think you need to measure from the center of the wheel to the center of the chrome strip. incase you have different tire pressures, and no two tires are exactly alike. Ideally you want the same measurement at all four points on stock suspension. ( unless you want the jacked up look in back). My 74 gt had a measurement of 15 1/2 " at all points within a 1/4 " after replacing rear springs. Keep in mind that the gas tank is offset to the passenger side for muffler clearance, and if you are using a 12 v instead of 2- 6 v batteries where is it sitting. It does not sound like much but every little bit helps. I dont like to bad mouth suppliers but if you buy rear springs, do not buy Victoria British ( made in china). The rear will sit about 2 1/2" high. I had to replace them with ones from B-Hive. and have since talked to people who have had the same problem. Good Luck!!

A stock 68 roadster should have between 13.5 and 14.5 inches from bottom of chrome strip to center of wheel. The difference relates to tire pressure and size of tires. I assume that all of your tires are the same size, thus the measurement that you get should be fairly close on all four corners.

How does tire pressure or size affect this chrome strip to center of wheel dimension?

I just measured my newly rebuilt front and got a measurement from the center of the wheel to the chrome strip at 14 3/4 inches...but the rear is only 12 1/2 inches.

I knew she was sagging, but 2 1/4 inches??? OK...I know what this winter's project will be...now where is a good place to get new springs? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I got mine from Moss Motors for $180 shipped. When I talked to the rep at moss motors he said the fender should sit about 2 fingers width above the top of the tire, that is assuming you have the same size tire as original, which I do. I just measured from center of wheel to the chrome strip and it was at 14.5".... Can I expect any increase with these new leafs then, or did I just waste my money????

Gee, Dave, it seems to me you could have the car sitting on jack stands under the axle, with no wheels on it at all, and that dimension wouldn't change a whit.
