Quality of various Whitworth spanners

I want to purchase a set of "quality" Whitworth spanners. As I peruse ebay, there are many manufactures (most of which I've never seen...)

Everest
Acesa
Dick King
Rolson
Gedore
Jenbro
Tipco

Are some of these better than the others? Are there some to stay away from? Recommendations from the Bloody Knuckle Club?

Thanks!

I did Everest and they seem to fit the TD quite well. Be careful with the auction though. I thought I was getting a lot more than I actually recieved. Pictures on the auction were for full sets. Somewhere is the text listed that pictures were just samples of what I should receive. Copy also stated what was actually going to be sent.
My own fault really but I hate it when it is listed that way.
There tools are made in India. Not very "Attractive" tools like the glitter of a Snap on or a Craftsman. But so far they seem strong enough. I have not put them through serious "wrenching" yet.

One of the advertisers on this forum (British Tools and Fasteners at www.britishfasteners.com ) carries Everest, King Dick, Britool, and others. I've got some old Whitworth tools but recently bought some Everest wrenches and sockets, as did the previous poster.

So far, I'm happy with them. For some reason, lately I've had to grind so many wrenches to fit into tight spaces etc that I decided to buy cheaper wrenches so I'd feel better about it. They're not pretty but the quality is a lot better than the junk wrenches you see everywhere these days.

Either King Dick (yes, that's the name) or Britool are good quality & you can't go wrong but they're much more $$$.

If you decide to contact British Tools & Fasteners, click on one of the adverts on this forum so Basil gets credit.

Good luck.

This Ancient Briton has only heard of one of those, and that seems to be a reversed name. However, if genuine, King Dick are, or used to be, excellent tools. I have some dating back to the 50s that are as good as new.

I did the british fasteners.com. Wish I could find some originals for the TD though.

Firstly, this has been corrected.

Secondly, as I may have posted before, good quality Whitworth wrenches are always available in either King Dick or Britool. The finish on these tools is excellent! They are made in the U.K and the price relects that. A 10 piece King Dick combination wrench set retails for $243.50.

We sell Everest tools as an excellent alternative due to amount of requests we had that King Dick and Britool prices were excessive!

Britool also has a beautiful 11 piece combo wrench set that costs $294.00!

The majority of our customers have been very happy to find Whitworth tools for a better price!

There! Once again, I think I have defended our choice of having tools on both ends of the spectrum!

I bought a set of British Tools less expensive Whitworth's...at first I was turned off by the finish...but, they are actually a great toold..do exactly what they're supposed to...&, as I don't need them much, I'd rather not pay premium price.

If it says Dick King something isn't right. As posted already they should be King Dick.

Well, my TD has its original roll of tools in the tool box under the bonnet...I just don't want to damage them as they're in great 'as new' shape...that's why I bought the inexpensive ones from British Tool....& I'm happy with them!
