Thanks to a really talented and nice fellow TR8 owner, I have a true artists conception of what my TR8 would look like with bumpers and the rockers painted to match the body color. the back end is really the ugly end of these cars with those hideous rear bumpers, so I wanted it shown in the worst angle and with the top up, which is not exactly flattering either. I mean you do see it going as well as coming, so......

So what do you guys think, original black or Lave Red Pearl Metallic???

Paul, Nice car and I always loved the MGB late model with painted trim. Using the proper paint will be the trick getting it matched with a nice shine.

Wayne, thanks for the thoughts. I will have these professionally done, so the paint and the color will match perfectly, I'm sure.

They are doing the roll bar right now to match the body and that will be done next week, so when I take it over to install that, the bumpers may just get done at that time.

I think that the early TR7 bumpers were made without them and have a more smooth and rounded look. But I'm not sure if they will fit or if anyone has any. Maybe Todd will show up and he'll know for sure.

Don the question seems to be, were the smoother bumpers only used in Europe, or did they actually make it to the USA on the early cars?

I know the 76 TR7 I saw had the same bumper as my 77, which is the same bumper that you have on your TR8, I dont know any photos offhand of real early wedges in the states to compare with if the earliest ones built in 75 had different bumpers.

Thanks to a really talented and nice fellow TR6 owner....

Ahem. For the record I do not own a TR6  A TR3 soon, but it will take alooooong time before I buy a TR6.

I vote for the black by the way.

BTW, my TR8 was painted solid blue under the rockers before my last professional paint. It looked cool for about a month and then started to look really boring.

I have gloss black down there now and it look very professional.... in my crummy opinion anyway

My vote is to paint both the front and rear bumpers.
To me, it looks unbalanced with just the rear bumper painted... but that's just me.
Good looking car Paul!

I like the body colored lower panels and bumpers.

I would paint the black trim strip body color, or leave off all together.

One of the places in the UK that makes reproduction surrey tops had fiberglass bumpers.

Here it is, about 1/4 of the way down:

I really like that color, but the painted bumpers don't quite make it for me as
they are not molded to blend with the body lines like the rubber bumper MGBs. Might work without the overiders as per the european bumpers. I'm nearly certain the stateside ones all had the overiders. The black bumpers blend with the flat black below the doors and behind the rear wheels.

I don't see many TR7's or 8's around and never did notice the rear bumper. They don't do much for the car. Painted is to much red for me it looks like a swim platform off a boat. The black breaks it up some. I think flat or satin black would look the best. I like the look of the Grinnall bumper if you could somehow find one of those. I don't think it would fit your car without working on the rear fenders though. Whatever you do it's still an nice looking car.

FWIW, IMO the all-one-color treatment makes it look like a Fiat X-1/9. The Federally mandated bumpers are hideous no matter WHAT color they are, so I'd keep the original black scheme as there's no disguising them.

I have a combo of body colored bumpers with the black panels. I think it works for me because of the front body kit being the same color. I am considering some of the fiberglass options.

Paul I think in the case of your color black is the way to go. It would be interesting to see how it would look with the black panels and body colored bumpers.

Randy, that was a pure typo on my part after typing several TR6 thread replies. Sorry about that.

I'm going to look into a smaller bumper for the rear. The intent was to do both the front and rear, but Randy did not have the first pic completed with the front when I posted this originally.
