MGA OIL FILTER

Has anyone solved the problem of how to replace this filter? Cant even get my fingers around it. The local MG Spares Guy reckons the Moss Spin On ones are hopeless so am now batteling with changing the filter element.

I believe there should be a bolt on the bottom to loosen and remove, and then the canister should drop down. Make sure you remove the gasket against the main housing, doubling up that gasket causes real issues. Been there done that.

In college, one of my jobs was running the lube rack at the BMC dealer. It's easiest if you can get under the car, like with a lift. There's one bolt to drop the canister, then we had made a special tool for removing the O ring. Took a small screwdriver, cut off the tip and ground it to a point, bent the end 90 degrees and it was a snap to dig out the old ring.

I've seen some of those o-rings that had never been changed and became so brittle they came out in pieces 'n bits.
