General MG Oil Drain Valve -- mine is an MGB, but they have others

I got this from Jeff at Little British Car Co in Farmington Hills MI. My only connection to Jeff is that my Inzhishenh, Jack, bought this from him but if he wants to send me beaucoup MGB parts it would be really rude to refuse delivery.

It works and, importantly to the owner of the concrete I park on, being a ball valve and sealed with o-rings in machined grooves, it does not leak.

EZ-101 is the valve and and H-101 is a 3/8 inch OD straight screw-in nipple. I just put empty 20 oz bottles -- 'cause they fit without jacking the car -- underneath and drain the warm oil into them. We burn the used oil in space heaters but it could easily be recycled.

Neat-looking. But think about it: Would you buy this and then put your faith in that little tap in a unit made in China? If something goes wrong and the tap somehow opens and your sump oil is dumped en route, what are the supplier's guarantee conditions? Replace with new engine or just replace the valve?

A decent drip tray and a spanner have worked for more than 75 years on MGs. Not so sexy-looking as this gadget, but I'll stick to the old method.

Interestingly the greatest number of new MGB parts that I have bought have been from (1) Germany or (2) the Czech Republic, Limora, with the UK and the USA third and fourth. I avoid Chinese parts whenever possible.

Guarantees mean nothing, and are likely unenforceable (just like government promises). The ball is spring loaded and the lever has cut detents to prevent movement unless the end is pushed down before being turned.

In general I prefer simplicity (because fewer parts mean fewer things can go wrong). I have removed my brake failure warning switch circuit and light, the ARO valves, seatbelt warning circuit (from the 77), simplified the hazard light circuitry, modified the vacuum and vent lines to a pre-'72 configuration, installed non-inertia-reel three-point seat belts (in the '77), and rewired the entire EC (on the '79).

But I also like some "new" things like this: : > Specialized Traffic Light Viewing Lens - LightInSight.com <

I have used that style valve (Fomoto brand) with good results for years on my Jeep wranglers where aftermarket skid plate make it hard to get a wrench on the drain bolt and attaching the hose prevented a mess of oil on the skid plates. They are very reliable, that said I don't see the point of it on an mg or any normal car.
