TR6 Need TR6 Brake Caliper Brackets

I'm in search of a pair of TR6 brake caliper brackets. I am installing Toyota front calipers on my TR3A. Purchased 7/16th bolts with metric shoulders from TRF. Purchased two new TR6 rotors from TRF. Purchased Toyota calipers from Rock Auto. And now, as I'm fitting it up, I find that the calipers absolutely won't fit over the rotors. A handy search on this life-saving forum resulted in the realization that my TR3 calipers won't work and that I need to use the TR6 calipers to move the caliper out, off the rotor. Anybody got a pair they would be willing to sell me? Photo shows the difference between TR3 and TR6 bracket.

Or do you know where I can purchase these items? I live in Northern CA.

Thanks very much.

PM me and I'll send you my contact info.

Pat

I may have a pair from some suspension parts swapping, but I can't check until Monday. I'll get back to you as soon as I know for sure that they are there.

Just thinking ... dust shields?

Depends on the year of the TR3...the earlier cars (like mine...TS23xxx) didn't come with dust shields. Also, if you do have dust shields, they will have to be trimmed whether they are TR3 or TR6.

Edit: Piggott says they introduced the dust shield at TS27689...

Trimming for the TR3 caliper bracket was minor to fit the Toyota caliper. Of course, the caliper doesn't fit over the rotor using the TR3 bracket so that was an unfortunate waste of time. I'll take a photo of trimming required when using TR6 caliper bracket, if I can find a pair. I've emailed a few parts suppliers to see if someone might have these to sell. Happy to trade TR3 suspension parts or powder coating services for a couple caliper brackets. I also ave an extra TR3A rolling chassis that I won't be needing, if any takers.

Looks great, rotors won't fit with TR3 caliper bracket.

approximate trim on backing plate, thus far. Maybe trim more with TR6 bracket? We'll see.

I also made a couple of brackets for the hydraulic lines...see pics below...

Flat brake hose "L" bracket attaches to what? Lower caliper mounting bolt? Thanks. Nice work. Love those drilled rotors.

So how did you do your brake hose setup? Did you make hard pipe adapter (metric to standard) and then use standard stainless hose? Very clean setup so I'm interested in duplicating this arrangement. Nice work. Thanks

I made my own conversion lines too. The hardest part was the small radius bend then 90 deg to prevent the line from fouling into the coil springs at full lock.

This is on my 4A

Notice the green metric line nut at the caliper. It's an off the shelf Japanese line from the auto parts store. I added a british end and flared to fit the TR braided coupler.

Pat,

Did you get them from John? I can't find mine and he is in CA, so you could have those right away.

Sorry,

Paul

Dr. Marty offers the whole conversion kit for the TR6 including the drilled rotors. Since I had access to the calipers, I just bought the rotors, metric to SAE hard line and the caliper bolts from him. I believe that the metric/SAE hard line is available separately from various sources.

The bracket is bolted onto the upper caliper bolt. I kinda fabbed them up in situ. First mounting the bracket straight up, then bending the ell and twisting to meet the flex line where I wanted it, drill in the hole for the flex line, and cutting off any excess.

You'll notice in the picture that I don't have the coil springs in yet. That was so I could see how the flex line moved through the complete up and down and side to side movement of the suspension and steering. You might have to make some final tweaks on the twist after going through the range of motions.

Yeah, the drilled rotors...just some bling. I doubt they do any good. I needed rotors anyway.

Good idea on leaving the spring out until after you check suspension travel and brake hose interference. I don't relish removing the spring again but probably should do the same and ensure I've set this up properly.

What a learning experience. I'll have assembled everything two or three times before I'm done with this....
