T-Series MGTD Front Brake Drum Removal?

Hey Everyone, Was wondering if any of you T-series peple have ever encountered a frozen to the pads front brake drum and would welcome any advice on how to remove it. We have dragged the car trying to unstick it to no avail, have tried lots of tapping on it but am concerned with cracking the drum.
Any help really appreciated, thanks, Charlie

I don't know if it would make a difference, but you might make sure that the adjustment is backed off all the way.

Don't you need a special puller for these?

Can you adjust the adjuster no matter what position the brake drum is in? It is stuck with the hole in the drum facing 12 o'clock. Don't know about a puller, looks like I might try heating it. Thanks, Charlie

The drum has to be turned until the adjuster is visible through the hole (approximately 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock - there are two for the front wheels). If the drum can't be turned, then heat is the least destructive method of freeing it up. Once it is free to turn, the adjusters can each be turned maximum counter clockwise to move the shoes away from the drum to remove it. You may still need a drum puller to get it off as the bearings used are ball bearings rather than tapered roller bearings as used in modern cars. If things don't loosen up with heat, you are probably stuck (pardon the pun) using a puller and brute force to get the drum off, but it will pull the shoes out with it and may destroy the wheel in the process (the cylinders may well be in need of replacement anyway). Cheers - Dave

Dave, Thanks for the info, I'll be following your lead with the heat 1st but I do believe I will need a puller of some sort as I could not remove the drum on the other side that was free wheeling. I hope the rears are easier to remove than the fronts. Thanks, Charlie

Dave, the puller worked great, did not have to use any heat. Now to the Rack and Pinion, a lot of play in the ball and socket, hope I can find parts for it. Then carb rebuilds, generator overhaul, Ignition and brakes. Looks like I'll be busy for a while. Thanks, Charlie
