TR2/3/3A Lower windshield rubber seal

I have seen this seal with the word "rear" printed on it and it was installed so that the word was toward the rear of the car. My seal does not have a direction printed on it so does it matter which direction I install the seal in the frame? The cross section view of the seal does have a slight curve to it. Thanks for your help and have a good day!

Yes, it matters. When I had my body work & paint done, I had the rubber replaced. When I got it back the rubber had gaps in the seal - it didn't fit flush against the car, instead bunching up in a couple of places. I removed it, turned it around and re-installed. Now it fits tight against the car. Once I had it out, I coated the top with dishwashing liquid which made it much easier to slide back in ( a trick that I learned on this forum).

Yes, as Bill pointed out, it does make a difference. The proper way to install it is counter-intuitive to the way you may think it goes. If you look at the seal closely, you will see that the bead at the top is angled in relation to the flat section. You want to install the seal so that the seal angles back toward the rear of the car, not following the angle of the windscreen frame. This way, when you install the windscreen on the car, the seal will be forced against the scuttle and will stop most of the water from entering. :glee:

I'll add, in addition to a lube such as dishwashing soap - I found it helped to stretch the seal as you pull it thru (had a tug-o-war with my wife). The stretching made it slight smaller for easier pulling. After it is in you'll want to let it relax for a day or two before you do any trimming.
