MGB Late MGB Manifold Modification Question

A few weeks ago I read post that discussed the performance of the Stromberg on the late B's and Tony pointed out that the problem with the later cars was not the Stromberg,it was the manifold and the way it exhausted.

I have an old cracked manifold and was thinking of cutting the exhaust portion off. Will that setup only work with a header or can the early exhaust manifold be used (which I also have).

What kind of difference will this make.

Early exhaust will work though there's a place you might nave to "shape" with a hammer.

Increased exhaust breathing is one thing you'll experience.

With my luck I would shatter the cast iron! Can the heatshield still be used? I am leaning towards a header if I try this experiment.

Put it together & you'll see what I mean...that's why I use headers because I can 'tap' them!

Could've been but there are some real easy ways to get more out of it without spending an arm & leg: port, polish, etc. - the basic hot rod tricks.
